Reading Order: If you want to start with the background details of future Earth’s technology and troubles as aliens arrive, you can see the characters grown from teens to travelers in an action-packed tale. The paperback has info boxes with some of the glossary entries to help you out as you read along. If you read the eBook, you can check out the glossary in the Extra Materials section to avoid disrupting the flow of the story. It’s also possible to skim over the tech to enjoy the character-driven action.
If you’d prefer to get right to meeting new aliens and seeing the story in space, with the matured characters as crew and specialists, Ripped Genes is the place to start. The characters are re-introduced, though of course not all the history can be presented. Ripped Genes might be an easier read, and some might prefer to hop into things there, then “flash back” to book one afterwards.
